The Story
A comforting home-style tofu dish where golden fried tofu soaks up a rich tomato sauce, bringing together warmth, flavor, and a taste of everyday Myanmar cooking.
Instructions
- 1
Drain the tofu and press it to remove excess moisture before cutting it into your desired size.
- 2
Season the tofu pieces with salt and MSG evenly on all sides.
- 3
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add enough oil to coat the bottom.
- 4
Fry the seasoned tofu in the hot oil until they are golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 5
While the tofu is frying, chop the tomatoes, shallots, and chili into small pieces.
- 6
In a large pot, combine the fried tofu, chopped tomatoes, shallots, 1 tablespoon of salt, a pinch of MSG, fish sauce, and paprika.
- 7
Add 4 tablespoons of cooking oil to the pot and stir the ingredients well.
- 8
Place the pot over medium heat and cook the mixture until the tomatoes have softened, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes.
- 9
Once the tomatoes are soft, remove the pot from heat and garnish the dish with fresh cilantro and chili before serving.
