The Story
ဝက်သားနီ (Burmese Sweet Pork) is a comforting classic, where tender pork is slowly caramelized in a rich blend of soy sauce, garlic, and palm sugar. Sweet, savory, and glossy, it’s a home-style favorite that pairs perfectly with warm rice and brings a taste of tradition to every bite.
Instructions
- 1
Cut 3.6 lbs of pork belly or shoulder into bite-size pieces.
- 2
Place the cut pork into a pot and add 60 ml of ABC sweet soy sauce, 30 ml of fish sauce, 30 ml of oyster sauce, 30 ml of soy sauce, 30 ml of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of MSG.
- 3
Cook the mixture on medium heat until the pork releases liquid and cooks down until it is almost dry, stirring occasionally.
- 4
Add 2 large chopped onions and 1 whole smashed garlic to the pot.
- 5
Cook the onions and garlic until they become fragrant and slightly dry again, stirring frequently.
- 6
Pour in just enough water to cover the mixture slightly.
- 7
Simmer the contents until the onions and garlic soften, stirring occasionally.
- 8
Continue cooking, adding water as needed, until the sauce becomes oily and glossy, stirring to avoid sticking.
- 9
Check the pork for doneness; it is ready when it is soft, tender, and deeply flavored.
